The Fast & Furious crew are not the only ones interested in the local racing scene. Shane Lynch wants to go drifting in the UAE.
The Boyzone singer and racing competitor Shane Lynch has put a shout-out to UAE race-car drivers and drifters to tweet him an invite for a day on the road when the Irish boy-band arrive for their Dubai show on May 22.
The 37-year-old says he has heard a lot about the UAE’s passion for all things motorsport.
“Some of the people that I raced against in the UK told me about the drifting scene down there and I would love to come over there and check it out,” says Lynch. “So if anybody is going out and want to invite me along, send me a tweet at @shanelynchlife and if we can get it organised once we arrive I would definitely want to come and go out drifting. I may even bring some of the [Boyzone] boys along.”
Between tours and recording duties for Boyzone, Lynch has built a steady career in the United Kingdom as a competitive driver.
From 2002 to 2006 he has participated in the British GT Championship as part of the Eclipse Motor-sport s team and before recently showcased ing his skills as a drifter in the British Drift Championship.A self-confessed adrenalin junkie, Lynch says racing gives him the same thrills as performing in packed arenas with Boyzone.
“This is why I do racing, because I needed to find that adrenalin,” he explains. “Motor sport gives me that extreme feeling and that’s why I loved it and stuck with it.”
Regarding Boyzone’s forthcoming Dubai show, Lynch says fans should expect all the hits and some newer numbers.
“A certain amount of our greatest songs are in there,” he says. “But it’s certainly not just a greatest-hits show. There are songs from the past and present and the tour is also a message that Boyzone is here to stay.”
