An Emirates Red Crescent camp in Jordan has begun a vaccination campaign against polio for Syrian refugee children.
Dr Ibrahim Al Shamsi, director of the medical centre at the camp, said that coordination was carried out with the Jordanian Ministry of Health and the United Nations Children’s Fund, Unicef, for the implementation of the campaign to vaccinate all newborn to five-year-old children against polio.
According to state news agency Wam, Syrian refugees whose children have been vaccinated, expressed their gratitude to the administration of the camp and to Jordan for the generous campaign.
The Emirati-Jordanian camp has caravans, a water treatment station, two schools, one for boys and another for girls, a mosque and other integrated health units.
In 2013, polio re-emerged in Syria after a 14-year absence, prompting a vast regional vaccination campaign.
The Emirati-Jordanian Camp is located 20 kilometres north of Amman in the Mereijeeb Al Fuhood area.
