DUBAI // A woman wanted to spare her lover from being charged with having consensual sex with her so told police she was raped by an unknown man, a court heard on Thursday.
The American woman, DS, 23, and her Tajik lover, 31-year-old AA, did not appear at Dubai Court of Misdemeanours to face the charge of having consensual sex outside wedlock.
Separately, the woman was charged with filing a false rape report.
Both were convicted and sentenced in absentia to three months in jail, to be followed by deportation.
Court records say that at 1am on April 21 last year, the woman visited Rashid Hospital after feeling very sick and there she said she was raped the previous day by a man she did not know at a flat in Sports City.
Police officers who documented her report testified that she was drunk at the time, though she was not charged with consuming alcohol illegally.
Police documents said that the American gave a false name and description of her alleged rapist so they would not be led to her boyfriend.
“She told us that she was invited to dinner at a flat in Sports City that belonged to an Arab friend. She knew only his first name and when she went there, he raped her after she had a few alcoholic drinks,” documents stated.
Investigations led police to the flat of the alleged rapist, who turned out to be her Tajik boyfriend with whom she had been having consensual sex.
“After he was arrested, she confessed to giving false information and that she had been having sex with him consensually,” testified policeman MA.
However, during prosecution interrogations, she denied having sex with him at all. Answering prosecutors questions on why she reported she was raped, DS said it was because she was drunk.
