DUBAI // Results of brainstorming sessions for the Dubai Plan 2021 have been released and there are 105 recommendations to improve the city’s way of life.
Dubai Plan 2021 Creative Labs were launched as a brainstorming platform to generate futuristic ideas and devise solutions for the challenges of the future. The labs also aim to reinforce Dubai government’s position as “the government of happiness and to create a city of happy, creative and empowered people, living in an inclusive and cohesive society, which is the ultimate goal of Dubai Plan 2021”.
Commenting on the 23-page creative labs report, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, said: “We are keen on activating the role of the creative labs as a vital channel that encourages the participation of the community and private sector in the development of the overall system of work in the emirate and to confirm Dubai’s ability to reach its big targets in development.”
The six themes of the creative labs were: the Government of Happiness, the Happy Family, From Waste to Resource, Avid Readers, Made in Al Quoz and What’s in our Neighbourhood.
The report included detailed recommendations on ways to create stronger family units in the UAE, ways to improve Dubai’s recycling, develop more efficient government services, foster an avid reading culture and ways to turn Al Quoz industrial area into a cultural hub.
“Implementing the recommendations of the creative labs report is one of the priorities on the agenda of Dubai government,” said Abdulla Al Shaibani, the Secretary General of the Executive Council of Dubai.
Mr Al Shaibani said that the ideas generated by the labs reflect the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and they will have a great impact on the city.
Aisha Miran, assistant secretary general for strategy management and governance sector, said that work will begin to expedite the implementation of the creative labs’ recommendations.

Chatham House Rule
A mark of Chatham House’s influence 100 years on since its founding, was Moscow’s formal declaration last month that it was an “undesirable
organisation”.
The depth of knowledge and academics that it drew on
following the Ukraine invasion had broadcast Mr Putin’s chicanery.
The institute is more used to accommodating world leaders,
with Nelson Mandela, Margaret Thatcher among those helping it provide
authoritative commentary on world events.
Chatham House was formally founded as the Royal Institute of
International Affairs following the peace conferences of World War One. Its
founder, Lionel Curtis, wanted a more scientific examination of international affairs
with a transparent exchange of information and ideas.
That arena of debate and analysis was enhanced by the “Chatham
House Rule” states that the contents of any meeting can be discussed outside Chatham
House but no mention can be made identifying individuals who commented.
This has enabled some candid exchanges on difficult subjects
allowing a greater degree of free speech from high-ranking figures.
These meetings are highly valued, so much so that
ambassadors reported them in secret diplomatic cables that – when they were
revealed in the Wikileaks reporting – were thus found to have broken the rule. However,
most speeches are held on the record.
Its research and debate has offered fresh ideas to
policymakers enabling them to more coherently address troubling issues from climate
change to health and food security.
