The celebration to end all celebrations. Marco Tardelli’s primal scream heard around the world is arguably more famous than the brilliant goal that had inspired it. The realisation that he may have just won the World Cup for Italy produced one of the World Cup’s most iconic moments.
Gentile’s hatchet job
In Italy’s 2-1 second-round win over Argentina, Diego Maradona endured one of the most harrowing experiences of his career, thanks to a notorious man-marking job by Claudio Gentile. Maradona would wreak havoc four years later in Mexico but not before having to find his way out of Gentile’s pocket first.

Kuwait’s shame
Trailing 3-1 to France, Kuwait conceded a goal that the players complained was scored after they heard a whistle. Sheikh Fahad Al Ahmad Al Sabah, president of the Kuwait FA, made his way down to pitchside, threatening to withdraw his team if the goal was not overturned. Astonishingly, Ukrainian Miroslav Stupar reversed his decision, but France went on to win 4-1 anyway.
Armstrong’s giant step
In the days of two points for a win, Northern Ireland needed a victory over hosts Spain in their last group match to ensure progress to the second round. The shock win was duly achieved in Valencia thanks to Gerry Armstrong’s strike, which relegated Spain to second place in the group.
Algeria’s finest moment
In their first World Cup, Algeria warmed Arab hearts by beating West Germany 2-1 in their opening group match in Gijon. Rabeh Madjer scored early in the second half, before Karl-Heinz Rummenigge equalised on 67 minutes. Seconds later Lakhdar Belloumi struck the winner in what is still one of the World Cup’s biggest upsets.

- Double check that you’ve highlighted relevant skills on your resume and LinkedIn profile.
- For most entry-level jobs, your resume will first be filtered by an applicant tracking system for keywords. Look closely at the description of the job you are applying for and mirror the language as much as possible (while being honest and accurate about your skills and experience).
- Keep your CV professional and in a simple format – make sure you tailor your cover letter and application to the company and role.
- Go online and look for details on job specifications for your target position. Make a list of skills required and set yourself some learning goals to tick off all the necessary skills one by one.

You need to be patient, dedicated and not give up on your search. Candidates need to make sure they are following up appropriately for roles they have applied.

When Umm Kulthum performed in Abu Dhabi
Known as The Lady of Arabic Song, Umm Kulthum performed in Abu Dhabi on November 28, 1971, as part of celebrations for the fifth anniversary of the accession of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan as Ruler of Abu Dhabi. A concert hall was constructed for the event on land that is now Al Nahyan Stadium, behind Al Wahda Mall. The audience were treated to many of Kulthum's most well-known songs as part of the sold-out show, including Aghadan Alqak and Enta Omri.
