DUBAI // A labourer who drunkenly stabbed his roommate causing him to lose his spleen was today sentenced to six months in prison.
TL, a 40-year-old Indian, stabbed his compatriot PR in the abdomen following an argument at their Muhaisnah 2 labour camp on September 22, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
The roommate, who bled severely, was rushed to hospital but lost his spleen as a result of the stabbing. Prosecutors described the injury as a permanent 20 per cent disability.
The policeman YA said when he arrived at the labour camp at about 8pm he found the stabbed man bleeding on the floor surrounded by a crowd. He said the labourer was stood next to him and that a bloody knife was on the floor. He said the labourer was drunk and could not explain the reasons behind the assault.
The labourer denied charges of assault and causing permanent disability.
