Reports on social media about Emiratis being denied entry to Georgia are false, according to the UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation.
It said there had been no cases of UAE citizens being forced to turn back from the country, which borders Armenia, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Russia. It also denied that Emiratis had been mistreated at the airport.
However, people accompanying the Emirati travellers, foreign nationals who were residing in Georgia, were denied entry, according to information received by the ministry.
The ministry stressed the importance of visiting official UAE government websites and apps for information and to not rely on unverified sources, such as stories circulating on social media.
Emiratis are advised to keep up to date with guidelines and advisories issued by the ministry to ensure their safety, it said.
It also called on UAE citizens to verify the validity of their visas and identity papers before travelling to another country.
Emiratis should also register themselves and their families with the Twajudi Service on the ministry’s website, or via the smartphone app, UAEMOFA, to get further travel advice and instructions.
In the event of an emergency, Emiratis should contact a UAE mission abroad, if there is one where they are, or call the toll-free line on 0097180044444.
Emiratis can enter Georgia without a visa for 90 days in any 180-day period. Expatriates living in the UAE with a valid residency visa can also travel to Georgia visa-free for the same period of time.
