DUBAI // Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, met Chad president Idriss Deby in Zabeel Palace on Sunday.

Chad has large untapped natural resources such as agriculture, minerals, water and livestock, Mr Deby told Sheikh Mohammed during the meeting, according to state news agency Wam. The Chadian emphasised the business sectors’ role in establishing partnerships.

Mr Deby also visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi during his visit. He heard about the mosque’s history and architecture, and praised its library.

He later visited the tomb of the late Founding Father of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed, and said a prayer for him.

Yousef Al Obaidli, director general of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre, accompanied Mr Deby on the tour and presented him with copies of two of the centre’s publications.

Also on Sunday, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, received Mauritanian president Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz. They discussed political and economic issues such as coordination regarding the crises in Libya, Syria, Iraq and Yemen, and regional violence and terrorism. Sheikh Mohammed said the UAE is working towards boosting pan-Arab solidarity amid the region’s challenges.

Mr Ould Abdel Aziz praised the UAE’s support for pan-Arab issues.
